(SOAHOM)"Streets of America Homeless Outreach Ministry" Started several Years ago through a preacher that was trying to follow the leadership of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the Ministry started out as "Streets of America Ministry" and was changed later to "Streets of America Homeless Outreach Ministry"

(SOAHOM Beginning) When Streets of America Ministry was started it was a calling to preach the gospel to America (more about that below), and when I had started fulfilling that call, I was introduced to two men and their ministries that caught my attention. I knew I was to preach the gospel on the streets and where ever the Lord opened the doors, but along with that I had these two brethren open my eyes to a little more.

The First Preacher was a man named Preacher Don Hardman in Louisiana. I went to the streets with him on what he called Bread day. We loaded up the truck with all kids of bread and took it to the poor housing community in the city. Brother Don drove around the block and honked his horn and eventually stopped and opened the tail gate of the tuck and people came out from everywhere to get some bread. They where excited to see Brother Hardmen and when they came and got the bead they received a Gospel tract also and a word of encouragement. Brother Don Hardmen did this every week and he calls it Bread Day. I thought to myself what a great idea, and kept that in my mind for future use. (I have used it)

The Second Preacher who I ran across was Preacher Dan Meaders in Texas. Brother Meaders had started a Homeless Mission in an old Pool Hall Bar he used to drink in before he got saved. They closed the old place down because of the shooting's and someone getting killed so, Brother Meaders thought what a great idea to go in a convert the pool hall bar into a Church Mission. I thought it was a great idea. We need more of these and less pool hall bars. Brother Meaders had folks in the Church at Shady Acres Baptist Church to prepare food and bring it over to the mission so they could feed the homeless after they heard the Word of God. Brother Dan said he does it that way so they have to hear the word of God and then get fed or if he did it the other way they would eat and leave. I thought that was a great idea and kept that idea in my memory for later use. Brother Dan Meaders was a great help with ideas on having a mission. Brother Dan also introduced me to a man in a nice tie and jacket, Brother Dan told me where he found this man, and he was almost dead from drinking and Brother Dan took him to the hospital where he told the Lord if he let him live he would quit drinking and serve him the rest of his life, and he did. Brother Meaders was a true joy and great Christian fellowship. I learned alot from this preacher.

As the years went on I learned a great deal that would prepare me for later on in the years to come. Streets of America Ministry Later turned into Streets of America Homeless Outreach Ministry. It all started out as a Public Ministry reaching people on the Streets for the Lord, and still is but now the Ministry focuses on the Homeless, Poor, Families that have lost their homes to tragedies such as fire, or no money to stay there. I noticed people have troubles that they cant help, and if I can reach them with a Helping hand such as food, and a Kind word but most of all the Word of God, this is the open door to reaching people about the Lord Jesus Christ.

When we step out on the Journey to serve God by Faith we have no idea how to do it, but if we keep in close fellowship with the Lord then he will show us every step of the way. I was tossed between Evangelism and Street Preaching not realizing it all works together, So, I preached on the Streets and preached Revival Meetings as well. Did I become famous or well known? I hope not, at least not on this earth. Well this just a little about SOAHOM, and when you read more down below you will see where it really began. It is all By God's Grace, Mercy and Wonderful Power I am where I am today.

God Bless

More about Preacher Tom Anderson

Hello, My name is Preacher Tom Anderson, but you can call me Tom.

(My Conversion) I was saved in the summer of 1983 out of a life of drugs, alcohol, and many other things I care not to discuss. Paul the Apostle said "let me speak as a fool" and to go into my life of sin would be exactly that. I saw many of my friends die and go to hell before I was saved, and justly I should have been with them, BUT GOD had other plans for me. God saved me,and took me off the streets, but now, God has seen fit to send me back to the streets for a different reason. You might say there is a NEW MAN on the block.

(My Calling) Streets of America Ministry was organized by The Lord using me as a vessel to carry out His work. You might say God gave me a vision to carry out His will of spreading the Gospel to a lost people. We have been trying to Preach God's Word all across America. March 29, 1991 God called me into the full time ministry. I have been preaching on the streets since 1984, just One year after I was saved in 1983. I was getting my feet wet in a whole new area of life. but I was not sure after the Lord had called me to Preach exactly where it was He was going to send me. I did not know if it Was going to be on the Mission Field, or maybe Pastor a Church. I was not sure exactly what the Lord had in store for me to do, but I was in total surrender to His will for my life. After about 10 years of being saved and preaching in our local streets doing public ministry I met a Brother in Christ who was involved in a Ministry of helps. This Brothers name was Brother Don Riley. He asked me if I was going to a street preaching event that was going on in Washington D.C. called The Washington Blitz. I told him I did not think I could go, but the Lord made it possible for me to go and be there. This event that was in Washington was being put together by The Swat Team for Christ. I had met Brother Sutek and Terell Bear when they came by our Church in Beaufort SC, and This event took place about 3 months after the Lord called me to Preach, So, it was in Washington DC that God opened my eyes to what it was He wanted me to do. I did not know how, but I knew God did. The Lord put me through the Boot Camp of Public Ministry 101. Since that time God has been putting me through the obstacle coarse of Public Ministry involving Street evangelism, and Public ministry.

(My Crises) The Homeless Outreach is a large part of our Ministry now, since my health took a turn for the worst in 2004, when I had an aortic dissection.
After being flown to M.U.S.C. (Medical University of South Carolina), in Charleston SC, The Surgeon and staff were standing by in the Operating room. After the Surgery the Surgeon told my wife I would be Brain dead because of the Oxygen loss to the brain for such an extended amount time. My wife Prayed for me as I laid in I.C.U. By Gods Amazing Grace I woke up and not Brain dead. I told the Doctor that Brain dead has been my life, and so their was no worries about the Oxygen loss. I had to under go several surgeries since then. In 2010 I had 4 Major Surgeries, and now I am back to normal good health. I came face to Face with death and while on life support I remember hanging in the small thin strands between Life and Death, and almost giving up, but God, would not allow me. The Lord brought to mind my Family, and The Ministry, and the Souls that needed the Gospel. So I fought to stay alive and I know it was Gods Grace that brought me through. You can ask me all you want concerning the Ministry, but let me tell you about God and his Amazing Mercy, and Grace. I want to do more now than I ever have before. God has been so Wonderful, and He stood by me every minute. I serve God because I Love Him.

(My Companions) I am happily married to my wonderful wife Lois, and my wife and I have 7 children. My children's names are Christian, Marie, Rebekah, Sarah, Stephen, Tommy, and Timmy. For 10 years my children, my wife and myself lived on a 40 foot converted Greyhound Bus that was given to us by Mt. Hope Baptist Church. Living conditions were very tight to say the least. When we first started out on the road we only had 5 children, and after almost 6 years on the road my wife Lois got pregnant with twins. Tommy, and Timmy. My precious family have been my companions for a long, and hard time on the road. My wife health has improved, but not able to travel with me much any more. I was born November 12,1960, which tells you how old I am but, Since 1983 when I got Born again and later called into the ministry it seems like I have only just started doing something for the Lord. Time sure flies when your having fun in the Lord. It's been worth it.

(My Challenge) The challenge I will have had the most trouble with is getting Churches to see the need to get a Vision of concern for the Homeless in America or even at their own front door. I believe the reason our support will be low per month is because our Churches here in America have lost their Vision to see people saved in the very same Country, Community, and County they live in. We only ask support from those Churches who see a need and have a love for that sinner, whether he or she is Homeless, or maybe just out on an evening stroll down the street. Having that Love and desire to see those individuals saved and born again. We have always said support what you believe in. I say it's time to get the Vision back in our life as a Priority, because Jesus Christ is worth it, and He is soon to come back, and get His bride, and then all the supporting and serving will be over with. You might say "what we have written we have written".
